Benefits of reading quranic Surahs, How to recite Quran

Isa bin Muhammad (Alaihir Rahmah) says that I once saw Abu Bakr bin Mujahid (Alaihir Rahmah) after his death in a dream reading Holy Quran. I asked, "You have died, how are you reciting," upon which he said, "After every Salah and finishing of the Quran, I would pray "O Allah, give me the Taufiq to recite holy Quran in my grave" and that is why I am praying." (Faizan-e-Sunnat)

Ahadith

The Holy Prophet said:
1) The best of you is he who learn Holy Quran and taught it to others. (Bukhari)
2) Undoubtedly, the heart gets rusted like metal gets rusted when water goes over it. The People asked, "How can they [hearts] be cleaned." The Prophet replied, "To remember death in abundance and to recite the Holy Quran." (Mishkat)
3) That chest which does not have any Quran in it is like an abandoned house. (Tirmizi, Darmi)
4) Whoever read Quran and memorized it and belived its' Halal to be Halal and its Haram to be Haram [i.e., accepted it commandments of Halal and Haraam], Allah will accept the intercession for such 10 people on from him whom Hell had already become Wajib. (Tirmizi, Ibn-e-Majah)
5) Whoever is an expert in reciting Holy Quran is with the Kiraman Katebeen and whoever reads the Quran with pauses and it is difficult for him, that is, his tounge does not move easily and he recites with difficutly for him there are two rewards. (Bahar-e-Shariat)
6) The one who has memorized Quran will be told to read and climb and recite with Tarteel (clear and distinct recitation) like you used to read with Tarteel in the Dunya; your place will be where you read your last Ayat. (Bahar-e-Shariat)
7) Allah says, "Whoever was kept busy with the recitation of Quran from my Zikr and asking me, I will give him better than those who I give to those who ask" and the excellence of the Word of Allah over all the other words is like the excellence of Allah over all his creation.
8) Learn Quran and read it because whoever learned the Quran and read it and did Qayam with it is like a bag filled with Musk whose fragrance is spread everywhere and whoever learned the Quran and slept that is he did not do Qiyamul Layl is like a bag which is filled with Musk and its mouth has been closed. (Tirmizi, Ibn-e-Majah, Nisaee)
9) Read the Quran when you heart feels affection and attachment and when your heart becomes bored stand up that is stop reciting Quran. (Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim)
10) Decorate the Quran with your (good) voices. (Mishkat)
11) O People of the Quran, do not make the Quran a pillow, that is do not be lazy and be careless, and read the Quran in the day and night like it is the Haq of Recitation, and spread it, that is, read with good voices or do not take compensation for it, and whatever is in it, reflect upon itso that you may attain success, and do not hurry in its reward because the reward for it is great (which will be given in the Akhirah). (Bahiqi)

Rewards for certain Surahs and Ayahs

The Holy Prophet said:
1) Surah Fatiha is a cure from every illness. (Darmi, Bahiqi)
2) Do not make your home a graveyard, the Shaitan runs from the home in which Surah Baqrah is recited. (Sahih Muslim)
3) Whoever memorized the first ten ayahs of Surah Kahf will be saved the Dajjal. (Sahih Muslim)
4) Whoever recites Surah Kahf on the day of Jummah, there will be a Nur brightened for him between two Jummahs.
5) Everything has a heart and the heart of the Quran is Surah Yaseen, whoever read Yaseen, Allah will write the reward of reading the Quran ten times from him. (Tirmizi and Darmi)
6) Whoever reads Surah Yaseen for the pleasure of Allah, his past sins will be forgiven so read this near your deceased. (Bahiqi)
7) (Reading) Qul hu WAllahu Ahad (Surah Ikhlas) is equal to [reading] one third of the Quran.
8) Whoever read Ayatul Kursi after every Fard Salah, he will be under the protection and security of Allah. (Dailmi on the Authority of Sayeduna Ali)
9) (On the Day of Judgement) a caller will say O Recitor of Surah Inaam, come to Jannat for loving Surah Inaam and its recitation.
10) Surah Tabarak (Surah Mulk) saves one from Hell.
11) Whatever task is not begun with Bismillahir Rahamnir Raheem remains incomplete and unfinished.

Ettiquteets and Rules of Tilawat:
1) To memorize one Ayah of the Quran is Fard-e-Aeen on every Mukallaf Muslim; to memorize the entire Holy Quran is Fard-e-Kafyah; to memorize Surah Fatiha and a small Surah or something similar like three small Ayahs or one long Ayah is Wajib-e-Aeen. (Durre Mukhtar)
2) To read the Holy Quran while looking at it is better then reading without looking at it because in this case one touches the Holy Quran, sees the Holy Quran, and reads the Holy Quran and all this is Ibadat. (Bahar-e-Shariat)
3) To read the Holy Quran in the restroom and such places of impurity is not allowed (Na-Jaiz)
4) It is Haraam that everybody read the Holy Quran in a gathering loudly at once, however, it is necessary to read loudly enough so that one can hear what he/she is reading, that is, if there is no other distraction like noise. (Bhare-e-Shariat) Also, many children read together at once in a Madrsa loudly for learning purposes and this is okay.
5) It is better to read the Quran loudly that is if somebody praying, sleeping, or somebody ill will not be distracted. (Gunyah)
6) If somebody is reciting the Quran incorrectly then it is Wajib to tell him/her unless if one fears jealousy and hate. (Gunyah)
7) To memorize Holy Quran and then to forget it is a sin.
8) It is from the ettiqutes of respecting the Holy Quran that one does not put their back towards the Quran or spread their legs towards the Quran or sit in a high place when the Quran is beneath. (Bahare Shariat)
9) During recitation reflect on what you are reading. For example, when reading about punishment, one should repent; when reading about paradise, one should rejoice and pray for Jannah.
10) The way to do Sajdah of Tilwat is as follows: If one hears or reads the Ayat of Sajdah then he should stand with the intention of performing the Sajdah of Tilawat and saying Allahu Akbar should go into Sajdah and should recite the Tasbeeh of Sajdah atleast three times. Then, saying Allahu Akbar, one should stand up. To say Allahu Akbar both times is Sunnah. Similarly, to stand before and after the Sajdah is Mustahab. (Durre Mukhtar)

Lastly, learn how to read the Quran in the company of a Qualified Sunni Alim [and mature sisters must go to a Qualified Sister] who can teach them how to read as this is necessary. At times, while reciting many brothers and sisters unknowingly make mistakes in recitation which change the meaning which breaks their Salah. Likewise, send your children to Madrsas where they may learn how to recite the Quran with correct pronunciation and Qirat. If there is not a Madrsa in your town, then establish one. Knowledge of Islam leads one to Love Allah and helps to build a good moral character within the Muslim community. By learning arabic Quran, a Muslim saves his Salah, his Iman, and his Akhirah. Learning the Quran is not limited to just learning how to recite the Holy Book, rather, it is a life long process of learning how to recite it and understand what the Quran says. The noble Ulama have worked hard and written volumes of Tafseer which consists of Ahadith, Stories, and important points. After learning the Quran, we must practice it and spread the word into our family and community.

Reading Quran to seek the light to the right path

Reading Quran to seek the light to the right path. The holy Quran is the ultimate source and light for all Muslims. To seek this light of it one needs to read Quran. The importance of the text of Quran cannot be doubted or questions. At the same time, the significance of learning Quran with translation holds a great strength for a holy quran reciter.

There are number of issue in the daily life of Muslims, in which Muslims need to improve according to the Quran. Muslims have been practicing the same conventions from long time, without consulting Quran themselves. Unfortunately, many times Muslims ignore the negative side and only see the positive side of what has been written in the holy Quran.

Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman said, “People used to ask the Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa sallam) about good things, but I used to ask him about bad things because I was afraid that they might overtake me.” This is a great example to follow. Few common mistakes have been jot down below to let people know so that they can protect themselves and their dear ones from making these mistakes over the time. These mistakes are based upon few myths in the religion.
Myth 1: dua will be accepted if made the first glance of Ka’aba:
Many people have the wrong perception in their minds that their dua is more likely to be answered, if it is made at the first glance of the Kab’ah. Well there is no such evidence from the Sareeah, nor does any hadith indicate any such thing. Shaykh Sa’d al-Humayd said:
“This is not true; there has to be evidence for this to be true, because acts of worship should only be based on evidence. And that evidence must be saheeh in and of itself and it should be clear and unambiguous. And Allaah knows best.”
Myth 2: Kissing the black stone from far away and in the mid of tawaaf, holds a great importance!
Kissing the black stone is sunnah, indeed a beautiful one, yet kissing it from far off does not hold nay importance. People do it because they do not get a chance to go near the stone due to huge crowd. Those who have the chance of going near the stone, are lucky but those who couldn’t make it to the stone, should not mess up the crowd by standing in the mid of Tawaaf, while disrobing the flow of the crowd and throwing fling kisses at the stone. “It should be noted that the tawaaf remains perfectly valid without kissing the Black Stone. If one does not or cannot kiss the Black Stone. It is sufficient simply to point to it, saying “Allahu Akbar” when one comes parallel to it, although one may be at a distance from it.” [Fataawa ibn Baaz]
Myth 3:  Shouting prayers is a good way
It is noticed that some people shout duas and prayers at the top of their voices during Tafaas and Sa’ee. Usually in this case the imam or the leader of the group says out a prayer, which the followers repeat in loud voice, this cause a lot of confusion amongst others. Its better that you recite your prayers, dues and holy Quran education, while keeping your voices low. Take small dua books with you if you cannot memorize these duas, so that you do not have to follow any one. Always remember that when you are praying, it is between you and your lord. “Each one of you is conversing with his Lord, so do not disturb one another or raise your voices over one another when reading [or he said] when praying”. Sakaratul Maut (Last Moments Before Death)

A police officer in a Muslim country wrote the following letter to a Shaykh (Religious leader) describing the events that led to his return to Allah (SWT). He recalls:

Seeing accidents and crash victims was a normal part of my day, but one incident was different.

My partner and I had parked on the shoulder of the highway and began to chat. In a random second, the scene shattered to the hideous sound of metal bodies becoming one. We threw our heads back to see what had happened. It was a head-on collision, the result of a vehicle slipping into the lane of the oncoming traffic.

We couldn't describe the carnage. Two young men sprawled in the first car, both in critical condition. We carried them gently away from the car and rested them on the ground.

Quickly we returned to assist the owner of the second car. He was dead. Back we went to the two young men lying side by side on the pavement.

My partner began dictating the Shahadah to them. Say "Ash Hadu an La Ilaha Illallah (I bear witness that there is no god but Allah) ..."

Their tongues wouldn't acknowledge it. They started humming the hypnotic lyrics of some song. I was terrified. My partner had experience however, and he kept repeating his instruction.

I stood up watching, no movement, eyes locked. Never in my life had I seen anything similar to what was going on before me. In fact, I've never actually seen someone die, and never, in such a satanic way.

My partner continued to instruct them to say the Shahadah but there was no use. The hum of their song came to a slow silence, slowly. The first one stopped and then the other. Not a stir but Dead.

We carried them to our patrol car; my partner made no effort to speak. Not a whisper between us two as we carried the corpses to the nearest hospital.

The police officer fell back into routine, as he narrates, and started to drift away from Allah (SWT). But another event happened to him that sealed the return. He continues:

What an odd world. After some time, about six months, a strange accident took place. A young man was moving along the highway normally, but within one of the tunnels leading to the city, he got a flat tire.

To the side of the tunnel he parked and stepped to the back to remove the spare tire. The whistle of a speeding car could be heard from behind. In a second, it collided with the crippled car, with the young man in-between. He fell to the ground with critical injuries.

I rushed to the scene, myself and another partner other than the first. Together we carried the young man's body into our patrol car and phoned the hospital to prepare for his arrival.

He was a young adult in his blossom years. Religious, as you could tell from his appearance. He was mumbling when we carried him, but in our rush, we had not paid attention to what he was saying.

However, when we placed him on his back in the patrol car, we could make it out. Through the pain, his heart was reciting Noble Qur'an! He was so immersed in the recitation. Subhan Allah, you would have never said that this person was in intense pain.

Blood had soaked his clothes crimson red, his bones had clearly snapped in several places. To tell the truth, he looked like he was staring into the eyes of death.

He continued to read in his unique, tender voice, reciting each verse in proper rhythm. In my entire life, I had never heard any recitations like it. I said to myself, "I'm going to instruct him to say the Shahadah just like I saw my friend doing," especially since I had previous experience."

My partner and I listened intently to that soft voice. I felt a shiver shock my back and up my arm the hair stood.

Suddenly, the hymn ceased. I watched silently as his hand rose softly. He had his index finger pointed upward to the Heaven, saying the Shahadah (Ash Hadu an La Ilaha Illallah - I bear witness that there is no god but Allah). Then, his head slumped.

I jumped to the back seat, felt his hand, his heart, his breathing. He was dead!

I couldn't stop staring at him. A tear fell but I hid it in shame. I turned back to my partner and told him that the boy's life had ceased. He burst out loud crying. Seeing a man cry like that, I could not control myself and my partner faded away behind the fall of my own tears. The patrol car fogged from the emotions.

We arrived at the hospital. As we rushed through the corridors, we told all the doctors, nurses, and onlookers what had happened. So many people were affected by what we said, some stood there speechless and tearful.

No one wanted to lose sight of the boy, until they had been assured of the time and place he would be buried.

One of the hospital staffs phoned the boy's home. His brother picked it up and was told of the accident. His brother told us about him:

He used to go out every Monday to visit his only grandmother outside of town. Whenever he visited her, he made sure to spend time with the poor children idling on the streets, and the orphans. The town knew him; he was the one that would bring them the Islamic books and tapes. His dusty Mazda would be filled with rice and sugar and even candies - couldn't forget the candies - for those families who were in need.

He would not stand for anyone to discourage him from the long journey to that town. He would always politely reply that the long drive gave him time to review his Noble Qur'an and to listen to Islamic lectures on his cassette deck and that with every step to the town, he hoped for the reward he would find with Allah (SWT).

Rasool Allah - Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam gave the example of a man who loses his camel in the desert and in that wasteland loses hope of life. In that state, he sits down awaiting death to come. Then, he opens his eyes and finds his camel standing beside him with all the provisions to take him home. In his extreme happiness he cries out, "O Allah, You are my servant and I am your Lord!" He says it wrong from the bliss of happiness.

Rasool Allah - Sallallahu Alayhi wa Sallam said that verily Allah (SWT) is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than this man is upon finding his camel!

Death: An Ultimate Reality

Once Prophet Ibrahim / Abraham (pbuh) asked Malakul Maut, Hazrat Izrael (the angel of death) to show their form with which they appear in front of the one who is being departed, a believer and a sinner.

Malakul Maut asked Prophet Ibrahim / Abraham (pbuh) to turn around. And when Prophet Ibrahim / Abraham (pbuh) turned back and looked at Malakul Maut, he said, 'O Izrael! If a person saw you in this state, he will certainly faint.' indicating the horror of their appearance that they looked fierce and balls of fire were coming out from each of their hair.

Then, Malakul Maut asked Prophet Ibrahim / Abraham (pbuh) to turn around. And when he looked at Malakul Maut this time said, 'O Izrael! If a crying person saw you in this state, he will start smiling.'

Their former state is adopted when they head towards a sinner while the latter is adopted when they come to a believer.

Imam Zayn Al-Abidin (as) said: "The death of a faithful (Momin) may be described as if he has cast off his dirty garments and has put on clean and tidy ones; and they, with our love in their hearts, are called doers of good deeds. For a faithful death is like his being released from a dark and stuffy dungeon and entering a spacious and fertile garden; and for the infidel, going from this world is like being taken to a jail. For the faithful, the world is like a jail."

Imam Jafar As-Sadiq (as) said: "For the faithful death is like a sweet fragrance which bestows freshness and delight upon him and removes all worldly vexation and dejection. The pain at the time of death is as if all the parts of the body are being torn apart and nails are being hammered therein. In death the torture is as if a delicate silken cloth has been thrown on a thorny bush and dragged through it and its fibres are torn apart. But death for a faithful is not severe."

Imam Musa Kazim (as) said: "For the faithful the example of death is like a dirty cloth being beaten on a stone slab, in order to clean it. Similarly, at the time of the agony, the faithful is subjected to severity to purify him."

Ultimate Reality of Material World - Old Sock Story

A wise and saintly rich man, sensing his approaching death, called his son to his side and gave him these instructions:

'My son, I shall be leaving you very shortly. On the day when I die and they have washed my body and come to wrap it in the shroud, I want you to put one of my socks on my foot. This is my final request of you.'

Soon after this, the old man did indeed die, leaving behind his goods and property, his children and his dependents. Family, friends, acquaintances and neighbours attended his funeral. The body had been washed and was almost completely wrapped in the shroud, when the son remembered his father's wish. Finding one of his old socks, he handed it to the washer of the dead, saying, 'In accordance with my father's last request, please put this sock on his foot.'

'That is quite impossible:' Said the washer of the dead. 'Such a thing is utterly impermissible in Hindu religion. I cannot act against the Sacred Law.'

Despite this valid objection, the son insisted, 'That was my father's final request; it must certainly be carried out.'

The washer of the dead was unmoved. 'If you won't take my word for it,' he said, 'go and ask the elder men. They will confirm what I tell you, that it is not permissible.'

Holding up the funeral, they consulted the elder men, religious head and scholars, all of whom declared that this was not permissible in Hindu religion.

Just then, an aged friend of the deceased interrupted the debate with these words to the son: 'My boy, your late father entrusted me with a letter which I was to hand over to you after his departure. Here, this letter belongs to you.' So saying, he gave him an envelope.

Taken by surprise, the boy opened the envelope and read out the contents of his father's letter. 'My son, all this wealth and property I have left to you. Now you see: at the last moment, they won't even let you give me an old sock to wear. When you yourself come one day to be in my condition they will also refuse to let you keep anything. Naked body that, all you will be able to carry over from this fleeting world into the Hereafter. So pull yourself together and be prepared. Spend the fortune I have left you, not for the satisfaction of vain desires, but in ways pleasing to Almighty, that you may achieve honor in both worlds.'

Qullu Nafsin Za Iqatul Maut! Everything that lives shall taste Death! Noble Qur'an, Surah Al-Imran, Verse 185

Imam Ali (as) said: "Every creature who walks on the earth has to go inside one day."

Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (as) said: "Death is like sleep; the only difference is that while sleep is of a short duration, death continues till the Day of Resurrection."

Imam Muhammad at-Taqi (as) said: "Some of the faithful dislike the pangs of death, because they are not fully aware of the comfort after death. Just as children and the insane dislike to take bitter medicine and make a wry face, though the bitterness of the medicine is a forerunner of benefit (to health)."

What a beautiful advice and guidance for those who can understand! May the mercy of Almighty be upon us all.

Islam: Death is a Beautiful Gift for a Believer and this worldly life is a preparation for Hereafter

According to an old fable, a man made an unusual agreement with Hazrat Izraeel (pbuh) - the angel of death. He told Hazrat Izraeel (pbuh) that he would be willing to accompany him (as though he had a choice) only if Hazrat Izraeel (pbuh) would send him a notice well in advance. The agreement was made. Weeks became months and the months into years. One bitterly cold night, as the man sat alone thinking of his success in life, Hazrat Izraeel (pbuh) tapped on his shoulder. "You are here too soon" the man cried out. "You sent no messenger. I thought we had an agreement!" Hazrat Izraeel (pbuh) whispered "Notice your hair, once it was full and black, now it has streaks of silver in it! Observe your face in the mirror and see the wrinkles. Yes! I have sent many messages through the years! I have kept my part. I am sorry that you are not ready for me but the order of Almighty Allah (SWT) cannot be averted!"

Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh) said: You are not created for annihilation and mortality, but you have been created for survival and eternal living, and it is only by death that you are transferred from this lodging to other housing.

The King and the Poor Man are equal after Death in this World:

There was a king who decided to take a tour of his country. As he passed by different places, everyone rushed to see him. However, while passing by a certain place, he noticed a poor old man who did not pay any attention to the king's arrival and remained engaged in his own activities.

The king went up to this poor man and asked why he did not join the people to see him. The poor man replied, "Before you, there was another king who once passed by this place. Everyone gathered to see him as well. But, few days later he died and was buried in a place nearby. A poor man also died during that time and was buried near the king's grave. After some time, a strong flood passed through that area causing those graves to overturn. As a result, the bones of the poor man became mixed up with those of the king's. We could not differentiate between them any longer. After seeing this, it does not matter to me anymore as to who is a king and who is a beggar. In the end, our home is the same."

Imam Zein elabdin (as) said: The world and its affairs will seem insignificant for the one with great and cleric personality.

Imam Muhammad Bagher (as) said: To recognize the world insignificant is the highest stage of certainty in faith.

The Hereafter - Ma'ad by Ayatullah Dastghaib Shiraazi (q.s.)

Regretting on the Day of Judgment in Hereafter (Akhirah) for not following Deen-e-Islam

Once, a group of people were traveling on rocks at night. A voice came from the sky that whosoever picks up the rocks will regret and whosoever doesn't pick up the rocks will regret. Now, the people were confused. How can this be? Whether you pick up the rocks or not, you will regret!

Anyway, some people picked up the rocks and some didn't. In the morning when they reached their homes, they saw that the rocks turned into diamonds. Now, those people who didn't pick up the rocks started regretting saying, "If only we had picked up some rocks." Those people who did pick some rocks also started regretting saying, "Why didn't we pick up more rocks?" Both sides ended up regretting.

Dear Muslims, this same incident will take place with us on the Day of Judgment. Those people who spent their time in useless things will start regretting by looking at those who achieved a great position in Paradise by spending their time in the way of Allah (SWT). Now, those who did achieve a position in Paradise will start regretting by looking at those who did more than them and are higher in status. "Alas! If we had only done more to please Allah (SWT)."

Allah (SWT), the Majestic said: "And could you but see when the guilty shall hang down their heads before their Lord: Our Lord! We have seen and we have heard, therefore send us back, we will do good; surely (now) we are certain." Noble Qur'an (32:12)

Imam Sadiq (as) said: All evil is placed in a house and its key is love for this world. All good is placed in a house and its key is abstinence in this world.

Reality of Life and Death, World (Dunya) and Hereafter (Akhirat) in Deen-e-Islam

One day of the many days. There was a man traveling on a trip with his Wife and Kids. And on the way he met someone standing in the roadway. So he asked him: Who are you? He said: I am the money.

So the man asked his wife and kids: Should we ask him to ride with us?

They said together: Yes of course because with the money it can help us if we wanted to do anything and if we wanted to get anything we desired. So they took the Money to ride with them.

And the vehicle continued its way until the man met someone else on the road. So the Father asked: Who are you? He said: I am the high position and power.

So the father asked his wife and kids: Should we ask him to ride with us?

So they all answered together in one voice: Yes of course because with the high position and power we have the ability to do anything we want and own anything we desired. So they took the high position and power with them. And the vehicle continued to finish its trip.

And likewise he met in the same manner many people which give the pleasures and desires of this life, until... They met one person on the way... The Father asks him Who are you? He said: I am Deen-e-Islam (Religion Islam).

So the father, wife, and kids said all together in one voice: No, no this isn't the time, we desire the pleasures of this life and world (Dunya), and the Deen will prevent us and ban us from these things and it will take control over us, and we will be worn-out from being loyal to it and its learning. And the Halal (Lawful) and the Haram (Forbidden), and this thing prayer and that thing Hijab, and this fasting , and and and and and etc, It will be a burden upon us!

But what is certain is that we will definitely return for you to pick you up but only after we enjoy this life and everything in it.

So sadly they left him behind and the vehicle continued its trip.

And out of no where something appeared in the middle of the road. It was a check point in the road and it had a sign saying, STOP!

And they found a man gesturing for the father to get out of the vehicle.

So the man said to the father: The trip has ended as far as you are concerned! And it is upon you to get out and come with me.

The father was shocked with fear and didn't say a word.

So the man said to him: I am searching for the Deen-e-Islam. Is he with you?

He answered: No I left him not too far back. So if you can let me go back, I can get him for you. You do not have the ability to go back, your trip has ended and there is no going back now. returning is impossible said the man.

But I have, money, high position and power, My Wife, My Kids, and and and and and and on.

The man said to him: They will not benefit you nor will they protect you in front of Allah (SWT). Not one bit!

And you will leave all of this, and not one of them will help you except for the Deen-e-Islam you know? The one which you left back in the road. So the father asked: And who are you exactly?

I AM DEATH

The one which you were needless of and didn't take into account in your trip!

The father looked at his vehicle and found his wife taking control of it and continuing the trip with all of its passengers but him. And none of them stayed with him, and none of them helped him in any way.

Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh) said: The worse of people is the one who trades his next world for enjoyment of this world, and worse than him is the one who trades his next world for enjoyment of someone else (in this world).

Allah (SWT), the Majestic said: "Say: If your fathers and your sons and your brethren and your mates and your kinsfolk and property which you have acquired, and the slackness of trade which you fear and dwellings which you like, are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His way, then wait till Allah brings about His command: and Allah does not guide the transgressing people." Noble Qur'an (9:24)

Allah (SWT), the Majestic said: "Every soul shall taste of death, and you shall only be paid fully your reward on the resurrection day; then whoever is removed far away from the fire and is made to enter the garden he indeed has attained the object; and the life of this world is nothing but a provision of vanities." Noble Qur'an (3:185)

Allah (SWT), the Majestic said: "And leave those who have taken their religion for a play and an idle sport, and whom this world's life has deceived, and remind (them) thereby lest a soul should be given up to destruction for what it has earned:" Noble Qur'an (6:70)

Big Ship that Landed on an Island: Life of this World and Hereafter in Islam

There was once a big ship that landed on an Island. The Captain said to the people: "Dear passengers, we will anchor here for you to gather provision and admire the nature and we shall move on with our journey in a few hours time".

All passengers got off and roamed around the island in groups.

Some 'Wise' gentlemen and ladies walked peacefully, collected some souvenirs and food for the journey and returned quickly to the ship. Since they were the first ones back, they got the best and comfortable places on the ship.

The second group of 'Forgetful' people walked, played and enjoyed their time. They admired the island and explored its nature. But soon they remembered the ship, so they ran back, without any food and souvenirs. Coming on board, they were tired, but alas the best seats were taken, so they had to do with the less comfortable ones.

The third group of 'Greedy and Lustful' people got amazed by the wonders of this island and they began to collect its plants and precious stones. After a while, having heard the call of their captain, they started to head back to the ship, carrying plants, stones and jewelry of all colors and value. However, the heaviness of the treasure they eagerly wanted to bring back slowed their return, and by the time they reached the shore, the boat had already left.

And finally, some 'Aimless and Narrow-Minded' people, convinced themselves that the island was all there is and the ship was just something they had imagined. They thus explored the island and built for themselves houses. The boat, of course left them to perish on the island and to be forgotten by everyone.

Similarly, on our journey to Allah (SWT), The Creator, we have landed on this island, called the World (Dunya).

Some 'Wise' gentlemen and ladies will walk around and collect good deeds, love and knowledge of Allah (SWT) and quickly return to The Creator. They of course will be handed paradise, the best of it!

The second group of 'Forgetful' people will get distracted by the world (Dunya) until their last moment. They will then repent at the last minute. Perhaps they will make it and get the lowest levels of paradise (Jannah).

The third group of 'Greedy and Lustful' people will be amazed by the world, and get attracted by its temporary and fake beauty. They will indulge in desire and food and be illusion by it. Perhaps, a call will bring them back to realization, but alas, the attraction will be too much to leave behind and they will miss the ship of salvation.

And finally, some 'Aimless and Narrow-Minded' people will just ignore the journey to Allah (SWT) and pretend that this world is all there is. They will take their houses as their homes and their desires as god. Indeed history as seen many people as such, but no one remembers them. They have been left in hell.

So, my friend... The ship is waiting, please jump on board! Your Creator Allah (SWT) is calling you: Oh man! Surely you must strive to your Lord, a hard striving, until you meet Him. Noble Qur'an (84:6)

Imam Ali Naqi (as) said: The world is a market in which one group makes profit and another group incurs loss.

Imam Mohammad Bagher (as) said: The one that sincerity of truth and faith took place in his heart, will turn his face from decorations and ornaments of the world.

Moral of the Story: Those who spend their lives devoted blindly to worldly goods will realize that they consumed all their lives chasing illusions. They will realize their ridiculous situation after they die. Only then will the ultimate purpose of life, to be a sincere servant of Allah (SWT), be clear to them.

No Escape From Death: A Real Life Story of Prophet Solomon / Sulaiman (as)

Almighty Allah (SWT) made Prophet Solomon / Sulaiman (as) King of a vast kingdom, which included His entire creation. The Jinn and men obeyed his will and even the birds adhered to his commands, to the extent of using their wings to provide shelter for him. He was also given many other powers such as being able to talk to animals and control the wind so that it could carry him wherever he wished to go. Prophet Solomon (as) was blessed with an extraordinary power of perception and intelligence.

It is narrated that one day, a man entered the court of Prophet Solomon (as), looked around at all the people and went out again. When the court adjourned, one of the people present approached Prophet Sulaiman (as) and asked him whether he knew this strange man.

"The person you saw was the angel of death (Izrael)" replied Prophet Solomon (as). The man was taken aback and looked worried.

"Why was he staring at me as though he wanted to take my soul?" he asked.

"What do you want me to do?" enquired Prophet Sulaiman (as).

"O Solomon!" exclaimed the man. "You have power over the wind. Command it to transport me to the land of Hind (India)."

As the man was a believer, Prophet Solomon (as) agreed and granted his wish.

A few days later, Prophet Solomon (as) saw the angel of death again. He asked him why he had been staring at the man so intently on that particular day.

"O Solomon!" replied the angel of death. "Allah (SWT) commanded me to take the soul of that man on the soil of Hind. When I saw him sitting in your court, I could not understand how I could carry out Allah's order. Nevertheless, as it was a divine command, I left for Hind and fortunately found the man there. I took his soul as Allah (SWT) had commanded."

There is nothing more certain than death. It is a reality, which nobody can escape from. Allah (SWT), the Almighty says: "Wherever you may be, death shall overtake you, even if you were in fortified towers". Noble Qur'an (4:78)

Imam Ali (as) said: Any breath that a man breathes is a step towards death.

Imam Ali (as) said: You are the game that death hunts. If you stand still it will seize (catch) you. If you ran (flee) away it will overtake you.

Life After Death and Hereafter in Islam, Fish and Fisherman Story, No Escape From Death, Prophet Solomon / Sulaiman (as), Life of this World

Many people have been on this planet and many arrogant have gone under this earth. Those Kings, Pharaohs, Nimrods and many more... arrogantly claimed to be the God but they have died! Not just this, they could not even know when they would die! All of us might know our date-of-birth or place-of-birth, but who knows one's date-of-death or place-of-death! However, as long as we don't know when we will die, doors of repentance are open for us, Insha Allah.

A little fish considers her ocean to be the only universe; after all, how big is an ocean for a little fish! Once a big fish advised the little fish about fishermen outside the water but she could not be convinced to believe that there could be anything 'beyond' this under water world. The big fish gave descriptions of the fishermen and their tools (ship, baits, net, sinker... etc) and warned her to stay away from those things.

One day, the little fish came across something strange and suddenly remembered what the elder big fish had said about fishermen and their tools. The little fish moved ahead saying, "There is no such thing as fishermen" and started to eat the bait until the hook got stuck into her mouth. Sadly, she was dragged out of the water and this was it! She could now see the world beyond water and became certain about what the elder big fish had said before but unfortunately, she had no chance to return back.

Some of us we might consider that this world is the only world. Some fish cannot perceive life outside of water, however, there are also some fish who can see things outside the water, it might also happen that a small fish comes out of water for a short time then goes back without being hurt (thus witnessing things outside the water). There are Angels as well as Jinns outside our sights, we don't see them. Devils can be imagined as the fishermen with baits trying to lure us. We have been warned to stay away from evil, even if we like its bait.

Imagine that the Angel of death (Izrael) suddenly appears before us and demands our Soul/Spirit (it can happen any instant anyway), if we don't happily surrender ourselves, that Angel could painfully snatch our Soul from us. Then we will realize and become certain about that unseen world, quite like that fish in the above example. Our death is certain, but are we prepared to stand in front of our Lord?

Say: The angel of death who is given charge of you shall cause you to die, then to your Lord you shall be brought back. (Noble Qur'an, 32:11)

Imam Mohammad Bagher (as) said: There is no other sin higher than eagerness in living and staying in this world!

Imam Musa Kazem (as) said: The story of the world is as a snake that appears to be soft, but inwardly has a deadly poison.

Preparing for the Hereafter: Drawbacks of a Palace, King Story

Many years ago there lived a King who built himself a huge and magnificent palace. No one had seen anything like it before. The turrets rose into the sky and many expensive materials were used in its construction. The King invited one and all to come and view his palace and left a guest book at the entrance for them to sign and leave comments in.

He took pleasure in reading the various praises that people visiting the palace had written for him in the book. However, he came across two comments that were not in keeping with the general feeling. These two comments were not in praise of the palace; on the contrary, they criticized it. The King was upset and summoned the authors of the comments. At first, neither of them was ready to explain his comment but, after the King assured them that their lives were not in danger, they disclosed the reasons.

"O King! There are two weaknesses in this palace. The first of these is that some day, the palace will turn into ruins, and the second one is that it does not have anything to ensure that its owner will not be separated from it one day. In a life of just a few days, why do we have to attach ourselves to such worldly, material things?" (Bikhre Moti)

Man will soon die and leave behind all his worldly possessions. What will accompany him the journey to the Hereafter are his noble deeds.

Imam Ali al Hadi (as) said: In the world, people are publicized by their property, wealth and asset, and in eternity they are known by their deeds and actions.

"Wealth and children are an adornment of the life of the world, but lasting righteous deeds are better with your Lord in reward and better in hope." Noble Qur'an, (18:46)

Wisdom therefore dictates that man should focus his attention to things that are imperishable and highly rewardable.

Imam Ali (as) said: The world is a passage lodging, and eternity is a place everlasting, yon should take advantage of the opportunity to save something from your passage lodging for the rest of your Journey.

Some body asked Imam Hassan Mojtaba (as):

Why are we reluctant to die, why don't we like death?

"Because", replied the Imam Hassan Mojtaba (as), "You ruined your next world (hereafter) and developed this one; naturally, you do not like to be transferred from flourishing to decline."

Imam Hassan Mojtaba (as) said: The faithful people use this world to gather provisions for the next world but faithless people only enjoy the fruits of this world while living.

Imam Jafar Sadegh (as) quoted on the authority of Holy Prophet Muhammad (saww): What do I have to do with this world, and what does this world have to do with me? The story of me and the world is similar to that of a man who is riding on a hot day and reaches a tree. He takes a nap under the shade of the tree for a short while, and then goes on leaving the tree behind.

Imam Jafar Sadegh (as) said: The person, who is attached much to the world, when it is time to depart, will have many deep regrets and many grievances.

Hereafter Preparation: Clever King Story, a Real Life Story

Hereafter Preparation: Clever King Story, a Real Life Story

There was a country long time ago where the people would change a king every year. The person who would become the king had to agree to a contract that he would be sent to an island after his one year of being a king.

One king finished his term and it was time for him to go to the island and live there. The people dressed him up in expensive clothes and put him on an elephant and took him around the cities to say goodbye to all the people. This was the moment of sadness for all the kings who ruled for one year. After saying farewell, the people took the king with a boat to the remote island and left him there.

On their way back, they discovered a ship that had sunk just recently. They saw a young man who survived by holding on to a floating piece of wood. As they needed a new king, they picked up the young man and took him to their country. They requested him to be a king for a year. First he refused but later he agreed to be a king. People told him about all the rules and regulations and that how he will be sent to an island after one year.

After three days of being a king, he asked the ministers if they could show him the island where all the other kings were sent. They agreed and took him to the island. The island was covered with thick jungles and sounds of vicious animals were heard coming out of them. The king went little bit inside to check. Soon he discovered the dead bodies of all the past kings. He understood that as soon as they were left in the island, the animals came and killed them.

The king went back to the country and collected 100 strong workers. He took them to the island and instructed them to clean the jungle, remove all the deadly animals and cut down all the excess trees. He would visit the island every month to see how the work was progressing. In the first month, all the animals were removed and many trees were cut down. In the second month, the whole island was cleaned out. The king then told the workers to plant gardens in various parts of the island. He also took with himself useful animals like chickens, ducks, birds, goats, cows etc. In the third month, he ordered the workers to build big houses and docking stations for ships. Over the months, the island turned into a beautiful place.

The young king would wear simple clothes and spend very little from his earnings as a king. He sent all the earnings to the island for storage. When nine months passed like this, the king called the ministers and told them:

"I know that I have to go the island after one year, but I would like to go there right now." But the ministers didn't agree to this and said that he has to wait for another 3 months to complete the year.

3 months passed and now it was a full year. The people dressed up the young king and put him on an elephant to take him around the country to say goodbye to others. However, this king is unusually happy to leave the kingdom.

People asked him, "All the other kings would cry at this moment and why are you laughing?"

He replied, "Don't you know what the wise people say? They say that when you came to this world as a baby, you were crying and everyone was smiling. Live such a life that when you are die, you will be smiling and everyone around you will be crying. I have lived that life. While all the other kings were lost into the luxuries of the kingdom, I always thought about the future and planned for it. I turned the deadly island into a beautiful abode for me where I can stay peacefully."

The moral lesson from this story is about how we should live our life. The life of this world is to prepare for the life hereafter. In this life, we shouldn't get lost into the deceiving and attractive things of this world and forget about what is to come in the afterlife. Rather, even if we are kings, we should live a simple life like our beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (saww) and save all our enjoyments for the hereafter. May Allah make it easy for us all. Amin.

Noble Qur'an Says: Verily the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah (alone). It is He Who sends down rain, and He Who knows what is in the wombs. Nor does any one know what it is that he will earn on the morrow: Nor does any one know in what land he is to die. Verily with Allah is full knowledge and He is acquainted (with all things). (31:34)

Noble Qur'an urges us to prepare for tomorrow: O ye who believe! Fear Allah, and let every soul look to what (provision) He has sent forth for the morrow. Yea, fear Allah: for Allah is well-acquainted with (all) that ye do. (59:18)

Hereafter in Islam (Dream Interpretation): Real Life Story (Preparing for the Hereafter)

Once a man saw in his dream, that a lion was chasing him.

The man ran to a tree, climbed on to it and sat on a branch. He looked down and saw that the lion was still there waiting for him.

The man then looked to his side where the branch he was sitting on was attached to the tree and saw that two rats were circling around and eating the branch. One rat was black and the other one was white. The branch would fall on the ground very soon.

The man then looked below again with fear and discovered that a big black snake had come and settled directly under him. The snake opened its mouth right under the man so that he will fall into it.

The man then looked up to see if there was anything that he could hold on to. He saw another branch with a honeycomb. Drops of honey were falling from it.

The man wanted to taste one of the drops. So, he put his tongue out and tasted one of the fallen drops of honey. The honey was amazing in taste. So, he wanted to taste another drop. As he did, he got lost into the sweetness of the honey.

Meanwhile, he forgot about the two rats eating his branch away, the lion on the ground and the snake that is sitting right under him.

After a while, he woke up from his sleep.

To get the meaning behind this dream, the man went to a pious scholar of Islam. The Islamic scholar who interpret the dream said, the lion you saw is your death. It always chases you and goes wherever you go.

The two rats, one black and one white, are the night and the day. Black one is the night and the white one is the day. They circle around, coming one after another, to eat your time as they take you closer to death.

The big black snake with a dark mouth is your grave. It's there, just waiting for you to fall into it.

The honeycomb is this world and the sweet honey is the luxuries of this world. We like to taste a drop of the luxuries of this world but it's very sweet. Then we taste another drop and yet another.

Meanwhile, we get lost into it and we forget about our time, we forget about our death and we forget about our graves.

This Life is Material, and the Hereafter is Far Better and everlasting:

According to Islam, this life is very short and full of material things that can get in the way of our submission to Almighty Allah (SWT). It's not wrong to have these material possessions as long as we remember our obligations to Almighty Allah (SWT) and thank Him for those things. We shouldn't get preoccupied with this temporary worldly life and forget Hereafter.

It is narrated that Holy Prophet Muhammad (saww) has said: "Most intellectual of man is he remembers the death most."

It is also narrated that Holy Prophet Muhammad (saww) has said: "One who gains the love and grace of Allah (SWT), always end (Ajal) will be before his eyes and he will be always worried about his death. But the one who take Satan (Shaitan) as a friend and becomes Bad-Bakht. Shaitan overpowers him and indulge (Giraftaar) him in long long desires and them he never remember death."

The famous poet Longfellow calls human footprints sublime on the 'sands of time' while writer Margaret Mitchell declares generations will be 'gone with the wind'. The Ancient Greeks believed that the human race was like a bird, that came from a dark passage and flew away in another dark tunnel, with a momentary stay in a bright room, which they believed was our world.

Sharing and team-work is in nature's way

When two goats meet upon a narrow bridge over deep water, how do they behave?

Neither of them can turn back again, neither can pass the other, because the bridge is too narrow; if they should thrust one another, they might both fall into the water and be drowned.

Nature, then, has taught them, that if the one lays himself down and permits the other to go over him, both remain without hurt.

Moral of the story: Even so, people should rather endure to be trod upon, than to fall into debate and discord one with another! It is better to yield than to come to misfortune through stubbornness.

I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like!

An Angel was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, "Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like?"

The Lord sent the Angel to two doors. The Angel opened one of the doors and looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew which smelled delicious and made the Angel's mouth water.

The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful, but because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The Angel shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

The Lord said, "You have seen Hell. Now go to the next door."

The Angel went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the Angel's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking.

The Angel said, "I don't understand."

"It is simple" said the Lord, "it requires but one skill. You see, they have learned to share by feeding each other, while the greedy think only of themselves."

Moral of the story: Its people's attitude that makes our place of work, a hell or heaven! 'Help and Seek Help' this makes all the difference to each individual's life and makes our lives hell or heaven. Success and happiness is all about effective team-work make it a great place to work.

Dawah (Inviting to the way of submission and surrender to Allah)

Every Friday afternoon, after the Jummah service at the Central Mosque, the Imam and his eleven year old son would go out into their town and hand out "Path to Paradise" and other Islamic literature.

This particular and fortunate Friday afternoon, as the time came for the Imam and his eleven year old son to go to the streets with their booklets, it was very cold outside, as well as pouring rain.

The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest clothes and said, 'OK, dad, I am ready!' His 'Al Mualim' dad asked, 'Ready for what?'

'Dad, it's time we gather our tracts together and go out.' Dad responds, 'Son, it's very cold outside and it's also pouring rain.'

The boy gives his dad a surprised look, asking, 'But Dad, are not people still going to hell, even though it's raining?' Dad answers, 'Son, I am not going out in this weather.'

Despondently, the boy asks, 'Dad, can I go? Please?' His father hesitated for a moment then said, 'Son, you can go. Here are the booklets. Be careful son.' 'Thanks, Dad!'

And with that, he was off and out into the rain. This eleven year old boy walked the streets of the town going door to door and handing everybody he met in the street a pamphlet or a booklet.

After two hours of walking in the rain, he was soaking, bone chilled wet and down to his very last booklet. He stopped on a corner and looked for someone to hand a booklet to, but the streets were totally deserted.

Then he turned toward the first home he saw and started up the sidewalk to the front door and rang the door bell. He rang the bell, but nobody answered. He rang it again and again, but still no one answered. He waited but still no answer.

Finally, this eleven year old Dawah (Inviting to the way of submission and surrender to Allah) expert turned to leave, but something stopped him. Again, he turned to the door and rang the bell and knocked loudly on the door with his fist. He waited, something holding him there on the front porch!

He rang again and this time the door slowly opened. Standing in the doorway was a very sad looking elderly lady. She softly asked, 'What can I do for you, son?'

With radiant eyes and a smile that lit up her world, this little boy said, "Ma'am, I am sorry if I disturbed you, but I just want to tell you that 'Allah really loves and cares for you' and I came to give you my very last booklet which will tell you all about God, the real purpose of creation, and how to achieve His pleasure."

With that, he handed her his last booklet and turned to leave. She called to him as he departed. 'Thank you, son! And God Bless You!'

Well, the following Friday afternoon after Jummah service the Imam was giving some lectures. As he concludes the lectures, he asked, 'Does anybody have questions or want to say anything?'

Slowly, in the back row among the ladies, an elderly voice was heard over the speaker. As the voice went on, a hint of glorious gaiety and contentment was plainly evident in it even though she was not to be seen, "No one in this gathering knows me. I have never been here before. You see, before last Friday I was not a Muslim. My husband passed on some time ago, leaving me totally alone in this world. Last Friday, being a particularly cold and rainy day, it was even more so in my heart that I came to the end of the line where I no longer had any hope or will to live.

So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the stairway into the attic of my home. I fastened the rope securely to a rafter in the roof then stood on the chair and fastened the other end of the rope around my neck. Standing on that chair, so lonely and brokenhearted I was about to leap off, when suddenly the loud ringing of my doorbell downstairs startled me. I thought, I will wait a minute and whoever it is will go away.

I waited and waited, but the ringing doorbell seemed to get louder and more insistent and then the person ringing also started knocking loudly. I thought to myself again, 'Who on earth could this be? Nobody ever rings my bell or comes to see me.' I loosened the rope from my neck and started for the front door, all the while the bell rang louder and louder.

When I opened the door and looked I could hardly believe my eyes, for there on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic little boy I had ever seen in my life. His smile, oh, I could never describe it to you! The words that came from his mouth caused my heart that had long been dead to leap to life as he exclaimed with a cherub like voice, 'Ma'am, I just came to tell you that Allah really loves and cares for you!' Then he gave me this booklet, 'Path to Paradise' that I now hold in my hand.

As the little angel disappeared back out into the cold and rain, I closed my door and read slowly every word of this book. Then I went up to my attic to get my rope and chair. I would not be needing them any more.

You see, I am now a happy vicegerent of the One True God. Since the address of your congregation was stamped on the back of this booklet, I have come here to personally say Thank You to God's little angel who came just in the nick of time and by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity in hell.

There was not a dry eye in the mosque. And as shouts of Takbir! Allahu Akbar (God is the greatest)! rented the air, even among the ladies.

The Imam (dad) descended from the pulpit to the front row where the little angel was seated. He took his son in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably.

Probably no Jamaat (Assembly) has had a more glorious moment and probably this universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with love and honor for his son, except for one, this very one.

Allah is in every breath: Religious Poem for Children, Religious Stories for Kids

When things are down

And you are out of your mind

Remember just remember

Allah is The All-Kind.
When your life is in darkness

And nothing is right

Remember just remember

Through the darkness, Allah is The Light.
When nothing makes sense

And you're heading for demise

Remember just remember

Allah is The All-Wise.
When times are troubled

And no one seems to care

Remember just remember

Allah won't hurt you, He is The Most Just.
When your heart is breaking

And your pain makes you fall

Remember just remember

Allah sees it all.
When you are weak

And the road seems long

Remember just remember

Seek strength from The All-Strong.
When life is a burden

And everything is unstable

Remember just remember

Allah is The All-Able.
When the way is cloudy

And there is no one by your side

Remember just remember

Allah is The Only Guide.
When no one wants to listen

Or is willing to lend an ear

Remember just remember

Allah is always ready to hear.
When you are poor and penniless

And you are stuck in a niche

Remember just remember

Allah is The All-Rich.
When you are down in your misery

And there is nowhere to run

Remember just remember

You can always run to The One.
When you're all alone

And your pain has no end

Remember just remember

Allah is the Most Compassionate.
And when your scars are hurting

And your heart is in fear

Remember just remember

Allah's help is near.
