4.0  Forgetfulness in the Prayer

4.1 What to do if one forgets in prayer

1 Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Abu
Salama ibn 'Abd ar-Rahman ibn 'Awf from Abu Hurayra that the Messenger of Allah,
may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "When one of you stands in
prayer, Shaytan comes to him and confuses him until he does not know how much he
has prayed. When one of you experiences that, he should do two sajdas
from the sitting position."

2 Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that the Messenger of
Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "I forget or I am made to
forget in order that I may establish the sunna."

3 Yahya related to me from Malik that he had heard that a man questioned al-Qasim
ibn Muhammad saying, "My imagination gets carried away in the prayer, and it
happens to me a lot." Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad said, "Go on with your prayer, for
it will not leave you alone until you go away saying, 'I have not completed my
prayer.'"
